Lesson 2
1. I went in to set up an account and already had one. I had been in before but was not sure that I had an account set up. I did remember the password and things so I got started by taking a quiz.
2. I did a complete test just because I wanted to go all the way through. It was a 4th grade reading comprehension test and it was fun. I did miss one question but it was easy to get around in. When it was scored it went back through the answers and gave the reason for any wrong answers. Students always like the results immeadiatly.
3. I like that from the top tab I can always get to My Center and find what I put there. There is just so much informatio that it boggles my mind. In the middle of my searching around in there I had a lady come in and she wanted to know where her son could go for some college prep tests so I showed her around in there. I however, went to Career Courses: determining what you want from your career and read some of things to help you decide what direction you would like to go. This could be very helpful for a student that really does not know what they want to do. Adults sometimes are in this same situation where they need help in moving on, maybe even to go back to school. What is nice here is that if they think they want to go back to school they can practice some of the tests and see if they can handle the material or want to study hard enough to pass these kinds of exams.
4. I had put in Cosmotology and had found the listings. Then I went to the bottom of the page and clicked on e-books. I found this most interesting. I choose a Getting Ready for 4th Grade Assessment Tests and found it was 194 pages long. It had a great introduciton and index and then I found the list of states most interesting. They mentioned when the testing would be done in each state giving parents a heads up on when their student needs to be prepared to take these tests. There was a great guide in showing parents how to use this book in helping to prepare students for these kinds of exams. I am thinking that this is something I can pass on to the PTO which is a new group in our school always looking for ways to help children. I will talk to the principal to see if we could show this to them. I also went into a book called the U.S. Constitution in 15 min. a day. I am going to pass this one along to the history and govt. teacher. They all have white boards in the classroom and it would be a fun thing to use with kids. I went into a Cosmetology Certification Exam, 4th ed. but I could not get that one to open up. The other two were much more useful for me. We just spent a morning with the 7th graders that are doing study skills this semester and went over some of the tests on this site. I always mention it to the 10th graders when I go through data bases when they start Speech class. This is a site I often recommend but have never spent a lot of time in it. Thanks for making me go there.
We're thrilled with all your great finds, Dee, and excited to hear the many ways you will share Learning Express! We agree that there is LOTS of great stuff here for 4th grade through adult in all academic content areas. Thanks for your comments!!
